Lake Plateliai (Lithuania)

Weather…

Situated majestically in the heart of the Žemaitija National Park, Lake Plateliai is the largest and most significant body of water in the historic region of Samogitia. It captivates with its crystal-clear waters and an exceptionally rugged shoreline encircled by dense coniferous and mixed forests. Seven photogenic islands emerge from the lake, of which Castle Island holds special historical significance, as it was the site of a wooden castle belonging to the Lithuanian Grand Dukes in the 15th century. The lake's ecosystem remains intact and rich in rare fish species, making it highly attractive for sport anglers and divers. Divers here can explore not only the abundant underwater fauna but also the archaeological relics of former bridge pillars. Furthermore, the lake is a thriving hub for sailing and provides excellent conditions for eco-friendly water tourism within a landscape steeped in myths and legends.
