Aukštadvaris lies in the heart of the regional park bearing its name and is a paradise for nature and history enthusiasts. The town is primarily known for the mysterious 'Devil's Pit' (Velniaduobė), a 40-meter deep funnel-shaped hollow surrounded by numerous legends. Scientists still debate whether it was formed by a meteorite impact or melting glaciers. Beyond geological wonders, the site features the Aukštadvaris castle hill, where an important fortress once stood, and a former Dominican monastery from the 17th century. The surroundings are characterized by over 80 lakes, inviting for fishing and rowing. The Verknė River winds through the landscape, providing excellent conditions for kayaking. The region is also famous for its ancient oaks, such as the Adam Mickiewicz Oak, where the famous poet is said to have sought inspiration. Culinary-wise, the area features fresh fish from local lakes and traditional Lithuanian bread. Aukštadvaris is a good stop on the way from Vilnius to Druskininkai, especially beautiful in autumn when the foliage turns lively colors.
