Falknis (Liechtenstein)

Weather…

Falknis is a 2,562-meter-high mountain in the Rätikon range, rising on the border between Liechtenstein and Switzerland. It is best known for its striking appearance overlooking the Rhine Valley and serves as a landmark for the municipality of Balzers in southern Liechtenstein. The mountain is primarily composed of Cretaceous limestone and is characterized by its rugged rock faces. Falknis gained international fame through its mention in Johanna Spyri's novel 'Heidi,' which brought regional recognition to the peak. Hiking trails lead to the summit from both the Liechtenstein side and Maienfeld in Switzerland, with the Fläscher Lakes serving as a popular stop along the way. The flora on Falknis is typically alpine, hosting rare plant species and populations of alpine ibex. From the summit, the expansive view stretches as far as Lake Constance and deep into the Bündner Herrschaft region.
