Malbun is the most important holiday and winter sports resort in the Principality of Liechtenstein, located in a secluded high valley of the municipality of Triesenberg at an altitude of around 1,600 meters. The area is surrounded by striking mountain peaks such as the Augstenberg and the Ochsenkopf, which form an impressive alpine backdrop. Historically, Malbun was used for centuries only as an alp and seasonal settlement by the Walser people of Triesenberg before tourist development began in the 1930s. The construction of the first ski lifts in the 1950s and 1960s transformed the location into a modern ski area, now renowned for its family-friendliness and guaranteed snow. Despite the modern infrastructure, Malbun has maintained its cozy character, supported by the car-free zone in the village center. In summer, the high valley is a popular starting point for alpine hikes and gives insights into traditional alpine farming. The area's flora and fauna are of high ecological value, with rare alpine flowers and marmots frequently observed.
