Alimastan Forest (Iran)

Weather…

Alimastan Forest is one of the most pretty sections of the extensive Hyrcanian Forests, located in Mazandaran province near the city of Amol. This dense, ancient deciduous forest is found in the higher altitude zones of the Alborz mountains and has a characteristically cool microclimate, often shrouded in thick fog. During the autumn months, the forest transforms into a spectacular cavalcade of colors, as the leaves of the massive oak and beech trees take on vivid yellow and red hues. A popular hiking trail starting from an elevation of 1500 meters leads up to a mountain pass, offering an unforgettable panorama of the snow-capped peak of the nearby Damavand volcano on clear days. The forest gets its name from a local wild edible plant called alima.
