Tubes (Hungary)

Weather…

Tubes is the 611-meter-high second-highest peak of the Western Mecsek Mountains, serving as a central landmark above the city of Pecs. The summit is marked by the Janos Lookout tower, built in 2001 on the site of a previous wooden tower dating back to 1888. Geographically, the location provides a strategic viewpoint, providing vistas southwards over Pecs to the Villany Mountains and northwards over the deep valleys of the Mecsek. The mountain's flora is characterized by downy oak forests and rare Pannonian plant species that thrive on the limestone bedrock. Historically, Tubes was also considered as a potential site for military radar installations in the 2000s, but massive resistance from the citizens of Pecs and environmentalists prevented the project. Today, the mountain is integrated into a dense network of hiking trails and serves as one of the most popular excursion destinations in the region.
