Lake Orfu (Hungary)

Weather…

Lake Orfu is part of a four-member artificial lake system in the Mecsek Mountains, created in the 1960s by damming local streams. Lake Orfu itself is the smallest member of the system, primarily serving as a swimming lake and water sports center, while the neighboring Lake Pecs (Pecsi-to) is the largest in terms of surface area. The project was originally initiated to increase the region's tourist appeal and provide water management reservoirs. Today, Orfu is one of southern Hungary's most significant holiday centers, famous for its clean air and easy on the eye setting set among the Mecsek hills. The shores are lined with beaches, campsites, and restaurants, and in summer, the area hosts numerous cultural and music festivals. Ecologically, the system is strictly monitored to maintain water quality for recreation, while the surrounding forests are part of the Western Mecsek Landscape Protection Area.
