Donji Miholjac is located in the Slavonia region of eastern Croatia, situated directly on the border with Hungary along the Drava River. The town is most distinguished by the Mailáth Castle, one of Croatia's most unique architectural gems, built in the early 20th century in the Tudor style specifically for a planned visit by Emperor Franz Joseph I. Adjacent to it stands the older Prandau Castle, dating back to 1818, which showcases classicist design elements. Both castles are set within an expansive English-style park, designated as a protected monument of garden architecture, featuring numerous exotic tree species. Historically mentioned as early as the 11th century, the settlement evolved into a vital trading post and river crossing on the Drava. The Parish Church of Saint Ladislaus, rebuilt in the 18th century in the Baroque style, remains a significant cultural landmark. Currently, Donji Miholjac serves as an agricultural and woodworking center in the Osijek-Baranja County, while also being a popular destination for fishing and hunting enthusiasts.
