Árpád-era Church Mecseknádasd (Hungary)

Weather…

The Árpád-era Church in Mecseknádasd, also known as St. Stephen's Church, is one of the most valuable Romanesque monuments in the Eastern Mecsek. Built in the 13th century on a hilltop, it originally served as the parish church of the settlement. The building is characterized by a simple, single-nave structure and a semi-circular apse, which were typical for village churches of that time. Medieval fresco fragments depicting biblical scenes and saints are still visible on the interior walls. During the Ottoman occupation, the church remained relatively intact, but after the 18th-century German settlement, its significance was augmented by the religious life of the new community. It was professionally restored in the 1970s, regaining much of its original medieval appearance. Today it is under heritage protection and is an important destination for cultural tourism, especially for those interested in early Christian architecture. The cemetery surrounding the church houses old tombstones that testify to the village's long history.
