Buba Historic Port

The historic port of Buba is situated at the head of the Rio Grande de Buba, a deep saltwater inlet that reaches far into the interior of Guinea-Bissau. Due to its unique geography, the port has functioned as a strategic hub for trade and logistics for centuries. Portuguese colonizers utilized this natural deep-water harbor early on to ship resources from the southern rainforests and eastern savannas. During the 19th and 20th centuries, Buba grew into a major export center for tropical timber, palm oil, and eventually cashews.
