Situated at an elevation of roughly 2,200 meters, Juta is a breathtakingly remote village in the Khevi region. It acts as the gateway to the formidable Chaukhi massif, often referred to as the 'Georgian Dolomites' due to its dramatic, jagged rocky peaks. Trekkers and mountaineers are drawn to this pristine location to experience some of the most spectacular alpine scenery the Caucasus has to offer, completely untouched by mass tourism. The village itself is small and retains a deeply traditional way of life. Horses graze freely on the vivid green slopes, and small guesthouses offer warm, authentic hospitality. The main hike from Juta towards the Chaukhi Pass is a legendary route, rewarding adventurers with reflective alpine lakes, cascading waterfalls, and panoramic vistas of towering glaciers and rugged cliffs. Reaching Juta requires a drive from Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) up a rugged mountain road, often requiring a 4x4 vehicle. After a day of exploring, visitors can enjoy local mountain fare, including hearty soups and freshly baked bread. Due to heavy snowfall and inaccessible roads in winter, the best time to visit Juta is strictly from June to late September.
