Millau Viaduct (France)

Weather…

The Millau Viaduct is a cable-stayed bridge in southern France that spans the valley of the River Tarn, widely regarded as one of the most significant architectural achievements of the 21st century. With a maximum structural height of 343 meters, it is the tallest bridge in the world, even surpassing the height of the Eiffel Tower. Designed by structural engineer Michel Virlogeux and British architect Norman Foster, the viaduct was inaugurated in December 2004 following just three years of construction. The bridge is a vital component of the A75 motorway, significantly easing long-distance traffic between Paris and the Mediterranean coast. The structure consists of eight steel spans supported by seven pylons and reaches a total length of 2,460 meters. Its slender and elegant silhouette was designed to integrate harmoniously into the landscape of the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park despite its monumental scale. The construction employed innovative techniques, such as sliding the deck sections into place from both sides of the valley.
