Narbonne was established in 118 BC as the first Roman colony outside of Italy and served as the capital of the Gallia Narbonensis province. Located in Occitania along the Canal de la Robine, the city has over two millennia of history. A striking reminder of its ancient past is the Via Domitia, an excavated section of the Roman road that once connected Italy to Spain, visible in the heart of the city. Its architectural masterpiece is the unfinished Saint-Just-et-Saint-Pasteur Cathedral, featuring a choir that stands 41 meters high, making it one of the tallest in France. Adjacent to the cathedral is the Palais des Archevêques, a complex of palaces that now houses the city hall and several museums. Narbonne is also famous for its animated indoor market, 'Les Halles', often cited as one of the best in France for regional gastronomy. Its proximity to the Mediterranean coast and the surrounding vineyards of the Corbières and La Clape makes Narbonne a prime destination for both culture and leisure.
