Rosheim is one of the most tradition-rich towns along the famous Alsace Wine Route, instantly recognizable by its exceptionally well-preserved medieval historic center. The town's absolute architectural masterpiece is the Saints-Pierre-et-Paul church, built in the 12th century and widely regarded as one of the most important Romanesque structures in all of Alsace. Visitors enter the old town through massive stone city gates that were once part of the historical fortifications, offering an authentic sense of the past. Along the cobblestone main street, magnificent half-timbered houses line the route, including the Heidenhaus, which has been identified as the oldest stone building in the region. The surrounding vineyards invite travelers to take long walks and taste local grape varieties like Riesling and Gewürztraminer directly at the wineries. A former railway line has been converted into the Voie Verte Portes Bonheur, a modern cycling and walking path connecting the town to the green foothills of the Vosges. In traditional Winstubs, local hosts serve hearty regional dishes such as Bäckeoffe and Choucroute. Rosheim perfectly combines architectural grandeur with the comforting tranquility of the Alsatian countryside.
