Mutzig is located in the Bas-Rhin department, at the transition from the Rhine Plain to the foothills of the Vosges Mountains. The town occupies a strategically significant position at the entrance of the Bruche Valley, which led to the construction of the massive 'Feste Kaiser Wilhelm II' fortress at the end of the 19th century, today regarded as one of the largest structures of its kind in Europe. Historically, Mutzig was also known as a prominent industrial site, particularly due to the Mutzig Brewery, founded in 1810, whose beers gained fame far beyond the borders of Alsace. The townscape is characterized by typical Alsatian architecture with half-timbered houses and historical city gates like the Porte de la Laiterie. Geographically, the community benefits from its proximity to Strasbourg while serving as a gateway to the hiking and recreational areas of the Vosges. Culturally, the town is deeply rooted in Alsatian traditions, reflected in numerous festivals and local gastronomy. In recent years, Mutzig has evolved into an attractive residential location that combines history, industrial heritage, and quality of life in an easy on the eye setting.
