Molsheim, set at the entrance of the Bruche Valley in the Bas-Rhin department, is a town where history and mechanical innovation meet. Originally a stronghold of the Bishops of Strasbourg, it gained prominence in the early 17th century as a center for the Counter-Reformation, hosting a prestigious Jesuit University. The town's historic core features the Metzig, a Renaissance masterpiece built in 1583, and the Church of Saint George and the Trinity, one of the largest and most impressive late-Gothic/early-Baroque churches in the Rhine region. In 1909, the town's destiny shifted when Italian-born Ettore Bugatti established his automobile factory here. Molsheim became synonymous with luxury, speed, and engineering perfection, producing the legendary Type 35 and Type 41 Royale. Today, the Bugatti brand remains deeply rooted in the area, with the modern headquarters and 'Atelier' located at the Château Saint-Jean. Beyond cars, Molsheim thrives as a commercial hub and a key stop on the Alsace Wine Route, offering a rich blend of cultural heritage and contemporary economic vitality.
