Alatish National Park (Ethiopia)

Weather…

Alatish National Park is situated in northwestern Ethiopia within the Amhara Region, adjacent to the Sudanese border, covering an area of approximately 2,665 square kilometers. Established officially in 2006, the park was designed to protect the unique lowland ecosystem and deciduous woodlands of the region. The landscape is defined by seasonal rivers, wooded grasslands, and acacia forests, which serve as a critical migratory corridor for wildlife moving between Ethiopia and Sudan's Dinder National Park. Notable wildlife species found within the borders include lions, leopards, various species of antelopes, and more than 130 recorded bird species. The area is particularly significant for the conservation of African elephants, providing a necessary refuge in the dry savannah environment. Despite its ecological status, the park faces ongoing challenges from illegal logging and encroachment by local agricultural activities.
