Montigny Sawmill (Eswatini)

Weather…

The Montigny Sawmill near Bhunya is one of the largest timber processing facilities in Southern Africa and forms the industrial backbone of the Usutu Forest. Following Montigny Investments' acquisition of the forest lands from SAPPI in 2014, the site underwent massive modernization to retain the value chain within the country. The plant processes hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of pine and eucalyptus timber annually, destined for the regional construction market and international export. In addition to structural timber production, the facility plays a key role in biomass energy generation, utilizing wood waste to produce electricity. The site is also a major employer in the region, supporting thousands of jobs in forestry and logistics. Through sustainable forest management certifications, Montigny ensures the long-term preservation of Eswatini's forest resources. The sawmill stands as a prime example of successful privatization and technological renewal within Eswatini's raw material industry.
