Sidvokodvo is a small but historically important town in the Manzini District, shaped above all by the railway since the early 20th century. Here the main lines between Mpaka in the east and the South African border via Phuzumoya intersect, making Sidvokodvo a central freight hub for Eswatini. For a long time the town was an important maintenance and transhipment site for coal from the Mpaka mine and for sugar from the great Mhlume and Simunye plantations. The railway settlement, with its typical row houses from the 1920s, still recalls the colonial past. Climatically Sidvokodvo lies in the middle Highveld at around 600 meters elevation and enjoys a mild, temperate climate with warm summers and cool winters. Economically the town has diversified in recent decades: besides the railway, small business and maize and bean farming play a role. Sidvokodvo is also a junction on the Manzini-Big Bend (MR8) road, giving it an important role in southbound freight traffic. The mix of old railway atmosphere, traditional residential areas and new infrastructure makes Sidvokodvo an authentic example of rural Eswatini.
