Kwaluseni lies in the Manzini District between Manzini and Matsapha and is Eswatini's most important academic center. It hosts the main campus of the University of Eswatini (UNESWA), founded in 1982 after splitting from the former University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland consortium. With more than 6,000 students and faculties of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and business, it is the country's largest higher-education institution and a key driver in training Eswatini's future elites. The campus itself is spacious, with lecture halls, student dormitories, an Olympic-standard sports center and a renowned library. Around the university a host of small shops, cafés and student accommodation has sprung up, giving Kwaluseni a noticeably younger and more urban feel than other suburbs in the region. The Swaziland Christian University and several vocational colleges are also based here. Its location between industrial Matsapha and commercial Manzini makes Kwaluseni attractive to students, as internships and jobs are easily accessible. The area is framed by the fertile Mdimba Hills, lending the campus a photogenic setting.
