Often referred to as the 'Park of the Whales', Bahía Solano is a majestic corner of the Chocó region where jungle-covered mountains plunge steeply into the Pacific Ocean. Visitors are drawn by the spectacular biodiversity, making it one of the premier ecotourism hubs in South America. Between July and October, the bay becomes a natural nursery for humpback whales, offering dramatic close encounters. Nature lovers can explore the Utría National Natural Park just south of the town, hike to hidden waterfalls, or witness the release of baby sea turtles at nearby beaches. The region is also famous among sport fishermen for its abundant marine life. Local cuisine is a delightful mix of freshly caught fish and traditional Pacific flavors. Like much of this coastline, there are no roads connecting Bahía Solano to the interior of Colombia. Visitors must take a domestic flight directly to the local airport from Medellín or Quibdó. The best time to visit aligns with the whale season in the late summer and early autumn.
