Jericó
Jericó is a quintessential Antioquian mountain town known for its strong religious heritage and impressive topography. It holds a special place in Colombian culture as the birthplace of Madre Laura, the country's first and only canonized Catholic saint, whose shrine attracts pilgrims year-round. Beyond its spiritual significance, Jericó charms visitors with its beautifully preserved colonial architecture and spirited botanical garden. Nature lovers and hikers are rewarded with sweeping views of the Cauca River valley from the Cristo Redentor viewpoint or by hiking up into the cloud forests of Las Nubes. The town is also the center for authentic Colombian artisanal leatherwork, specifically the traditional Carriel bag. Located about 3 hours south of Medellín by bus, Jericó is slightly less touristy than its neighbor, Jardín, offering a more tranquil and authentic slice of local life. The climate is mild and comfortable year-round, well-suited for leisurely exploring its steep, cobbled streets.
