National Museum of Cameroon
The National Museum of Cameroon is located in the heart of Yaoundé and is housed in the former presidential palace, a magnificent colonial-era building. Following an extensive renovation, it was reopened in 2015 to showcase the country's rich cultural and historical heritage. Over an area of more than 5,000 square meters, the museum houses an impressive collection of masks, traditional costumes, musical instruments, and archaeological finds from all ten regions of Cameroon. The exhibitions are organized thematically and guide the visitor through pre-colonial history, the struggle for independence, and the contemporary art scene. The building itself, with its white facade and expansive gardens, is an architectural jewel and bears witness to the capital's varied history. The museum serves as an important educational center and is intended to strengthen national consciousness and respect for Cameroon's cultural diversity. It is an essential site for anyone wishing to understand the complexity and beauty of Cameroonian identity.
