Tajan Nature Park was established in 2008 and is the only protected area of its kind in the Zenica-Doboj Canton. It covers an area of approximately 49.48 square kilometers between the municipalities of Zavidovići and Kakanj. The park is characterized by a pristine mountain landscape featuring deep canyons, mountain streams, and dense mixed forests. Key attractions include the Mašica Canyon and Lukina Cave, which is a significant paleontological site. Researchers discovered skeletal remains of the extinct cave bear (Ursus spelaeus) within its depths. Today, the park is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including brown bears, wolves, and lynx. Geologically, the region is defined by limestone formations and extensive underground water systems typical of the inner Dinaric Alps. In recent years, Tajan has evolved into a center for active tourism, offering opportunities for mountain biking, hiking, and caving under strict ecological regulations.
