Istočni Stari Grad (East Old Town) is a municipality in the Republika Srpska that directly borders the historic old town of Sarajevo. It was established in 1995 following the Dayton Agreement from parts of the pre-war Stari Grad Sarajevo municipality. The administrative center is located in the village of Hreša, famous for its high-quality limestone and marble deposits, which have been used in many prominent buildings across the region. Geographically, the municipality spans the forested slopes of Mount Trebević, giving it significant tourist and ecological importance. Mount Trebević is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts, offering spectacular views of the Sarajevo plain. Despite its small population, the municipality plays a vital role as a link between the urban environment and pristine mountain nature. The local economy focuses on stone masonry, forestry, and emerging mountain tourism. The climate is subalpine, characterized by fresh summers and snowy winters, making the region an attractive year-round destination.
