Botanical Garden of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

The Botanical Garden of Sarajevo is an essential part of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, founded in 1913 by the distinguished botanist Karlo Maly. Located in the city center between the museum's pavilions, the garden covers an area of approximately 1.4 hectares. It houses an extensive collection of over 2,000 plant species, focusing primarily on the native flora of the Balkans and the Dinaric Alps. Particularly significant are the endemic and Tertiary relict species that thrive here under scientific supervision. In addition to its botanical value, the garden features a collection of medieval tombstones known as 'stećci', which are historically integrated into the lush landscape. Despite sustaining heavy damage during the Bosnian War in the 1990s, the garden was restored through international cooperation and local dedication. Today, it stands as a premier scientific center for botanical research and a peaceful sanctuary for visitors in the middle of the capital.
