The Abbey of Malonne, located in a quiet valley near Namur, is home to a history spanning nearly 1,400 years. It was founded around 685 by Saint Berthuin, an Anglo-Saxon missionary who settled in the region. In 1147, Augustinian canons took over the monastery and guided it through a period of significant expansion. The current architecture of the complex is a mixture of various eras, with the impressive abbey church dating primarily from the 17th century. During the French Revolution in 1796, the monastery was dissolved and the buildings were nationalized. Since 1841, the facility has been occupied by the Brothers of the Christian Schools, who established a renowned educational center there. Of particular note are the Baroque high altar and the relics of Saint Berthuin, which are preserved within the church.
