Vitebsk City Hall (Belarus)

Weather…

The Vitebsk City Hall (Ratusha) is an outstanding architectural monument and the unmistakable symbol of the city. The original wooden building was erected in 1597 after Vitebsk was granted Magdeburg city rights. The current elegant brick building, designed in the Vilnius Baroque style, dates back to 1775 and stands as a testament to the region's rich commercial history. With its distinctive, multi-tiered white tower equipped with a historical clock and an observation deck, it dominates the historic old town. In the 19th century, the building served various purposes, including housing the city duma, a court, and even a fire station. Since 1924, the majestic structure has housed the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, which presents an extensive collection of over 200,000 exhibits on regional history, archaeology, and art. Visitors can climb the 28-meter-tall tower to enjoy a dramatic panoramic view of the Western Dvina and Vitba rivers.
