Orsha, situated on the upper reaches of the Dnieper River in northeastern Belarus, is one of the country's oldest cities and a vital strategic transportation hub. The city's historical significance is deeply rooted in its role as a border fortress, having been the site of numerous conflicts between the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Tsardom of Russia, most notably the famed Battle of Orsha in 1514. The urban center features the beautifully restored 17th-century Jesuit Collegium and several ancient Orthodox churches, reflecting its rich religious heritage. In the 20th century, Orsha transformed into a massive industrial center, famous for hosting one of the largest linen textile mills in Europe and operating a major railway junction that forms a critical link between Western Europe and Russia.
