Krimml Waterfalls (Austria)

Weather…

The Krimml Waterfalls in the Hohe Tauern National Park are the highest waterfalls in Austria, with an impressive total drop of 380 meters. The waters of the Krimmler Ache plunge into the depths in three distinct stages, creating a spectacular natural display. The first stage has a drop of 140 meters, followed by a 100-meter middle section, and a final 140-meter stage. A well-maintained hiking trail, established by the Austrian Alpine Club as early as 1887, leads visitors to the very top edge and gives numerous viewpoints along the way. Beyond their visual splendor, the waterfalls are renowned for their health benefits: the fine water mist, or 'spray rain,' contains a high concentration of negative air ions, which has been proven to alleviate symptoms of asthma and allergies. As a nature reserve of European significance, the falls were awarded the European Diploma for Protected Areas in 1967. Especially in early summer, when snowmelt increases the water flow to up to 600,000 m³ per hour, they demonstrate their full, immense power.
