Situated on a sunny terrace above the Brixental valley, Westendorf was named the 'Most Beautiful Village in Bloom in Europe' in 1998. The village maintains its authentic character with ornate Tyrolean wooden houses and the central Baroque parish church of St. Nicholas. As part of the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental, it gives direct access to over 280 km of slopes while remaining quieter than its neighbors. The Windautal valley to the south is a natural gem, well-suited for hiking and mountain biking in a pristine landscape without large lift installations. Families flock to the 'Alpinolino' discovery park at the top of the Alpenrosenbahn gondola, where children learn about alpine wildlife through interactive trails. The nearby Kreuzjöchlsee lake provides one of the best vantage points for views of the Hohe Tauern range. Local tradition is evident in the weekly markets featuring regional crafts and spirits like Zirbenschnaps. Westendorf is conveniently accessible via the Inntal motorway or by train at its own station. The best times to visit are mid-winter for skiing and late spring when the village's famous floral decorations are at their peak.
