Zillertal (Austria)

Weather…

The Zillertal in Tyrol is one of Europe's most famous and versatile Alpine valleys, stretching as a southern side valley of the Inn Valley deep into the Zillertal Alps. Surrounded by numerous 3,000-meter peaks, the valley features a unique combination of traditional farming culture and state-of-the-art year-round tourism. The heart of the region is the Hintertux Glacier, which is the only ski area in Austria that allows snow sports 365 days a year. The four major tourism regions, Fügen-Kaltenbach, Zell-Gerlos, Mayrhofen-Hippach, and Tux-Finkenberg, together form a leisure paradise that leaves nothing to be desired. In winter, hundreds of kilometers of slopes and modern cable cars attract skiers from around the world, while in summer, a vast network of trails delights hikers, mountain bikers, and climbers. The Zillertal is also known far beyond Austria's borders for its deep-rooted folk music tradition, which has produced many famous musical groups. The Zillertal Railway, a historic narrow-gauge railway, still steams through the valley today, offering a nostalgic mode of travel. In addition to sporting activities, visitors appreciate the warm Tyrolean hospitality and regional culinary specialties such as Zillertaler Krapfen or hay-milk cheese. The impressive high-mountain reservoirs, such as the Schlegeis Reservoir, are not only technical masterpieces but also popular excursion destinations with spectacular panoramas.
