Ghori Cement Factory (Afghanistan)

Weather…

The Ghori Cement Factory in Puli Khumri, Baghlan Province, is one of the most important cement production facilities in Afghanistan. It consists of two plants, Ghori I and Ghori II, built in different eras. Ghori I was built in the 1950s with Czechoslovak help and was for a long time the main supplier of cement in the country. Later, the capacity was expanded with Ghori II. The factories are crucial for the Afghan construction industry, providing a fundamental building material for infrastructure projects, housing, and reconstruction efforts. Control of the factory has often been contested due to its economic importance. Modernizing the outdated facilities and ensuring continuous production are central challenges, but the operation of the Ghori plants is essential to reduce dependence on expensive cement imports from neighboring countries like Pakistan and Iran and to support the domestic construction industry.
