Bagh-e Bala Palace (Afghanistan)

Weather…

Bagh-e Bala Palace stands on a hill in northwestern Kabul and is a significant landmark of late 19th-century Afghan architecture. Built in 1893 during the reign of Emir Abdur Rahman Khan, it was originally designed as a summer residence and a venue for royal celebrations. The building is characterized by its elegant white facade, a prominent central dome, and expansive verandas that offer sweeping views of the Kabul Valley and the capital city. Following the Emir's death in 1901, the palace served various functions, including a guesthouse for foreign dignitaries and a military depot during times of unrest. In the 1960s, under the guidance of Danish architects, the structure underwent an extensive renovation and was converted into a luxury restaurant, preserving its historical essence. Despite sustaining damage during the civil wars of the 1990s, subsequent restoration efforts have returned the palace to its former glory. Today, it remains a popular site for weddings and cultural gatherings, set within a serene park filled with ancient pine trees that provide a sharp contrast to the surrounding urban environment.
