Mbala Highlands

Weather…
Water temperature…
The Mbala Highlands are located in the far north of Zambia, near the border with Tanzania and at the southern end of Lake Tanganyika. This region is characterized by a cooler climate and high rainfall, making it one of the most fertile areas in the country. Topographically, a plateau at an elevation of about 1500 to 1700 meters dominates the landscape, dropping sharply towards Lake Tanganyika. One of the most spectacular sights is the Kalambo Falls, which at 221 meters is one of Africa highest single-drop waterfalls and a major archaeological site. Historically, Mbala is known as the site of the last German resistance in World War I, where General von Lettow-Vorbeck surrendered in 1918. The region is also rich in the cultural heritage of the Lungu and Mambwe people. Today, the highlands serve as an important agricultural hub for coffee, tea, and beans. The strategic location on the Great North Road makes Mbala a gateway for trade with East Africa.
