U River (Ukraine)

Weather…

The Uzh River (also spelled Usch or Uj) is a prominent waterway in the Zakarpattia region of western Ukraine. It originates in the forest-clad Eastern Carpathians near the Uzhok Pass and flows for about 133 kilometers before joining the Laborec River in Slovakia. The upper reaches of the Uzh are characterized by swift currents and rocky banks, while its lower course winds through the Transcarpathian Lowland. The river is namesake to the city of Uzhgorod, where its embankments feature one of the longest linden alleys in Europe, spanning over 2.2 kilometers. In spring, the riverbanks become a major attraction due to the blooming of thousands of cherry blossom trees. The Uzh remains an important ecological corridor and a source of hydroelectric power and irrigation for the region.
