Buchach is a pretty town in western Ukraine, in the Ternopil region, on the Strypa River. The town has a rich and complex history, where Ukrainians, Poles, Jews, and Armenians coexisted for centuries. This multicultural heritage is still visible in its architecture and atmosphere. The town's most outstanding landmark is the striking late-Baroque Town Hall (Ratusha), designed by Johann Georg Pinsel. Other important monuments include the ruins of the medieval castle, which towers over the town, and the Basilian Monastery. Buchach is the birthplace of Nobel laureate S.Y. Agnon. Visitors can wander the atmospheric streets and explore the historic churches and synagogues. The town is most easily reached by bus from Lviv or Ternopil.
