Piz da Stretta (Switzerland)

Weather…

Piz da Stretta, also known as Monte della Stretta, is a 3,102-meter high mountain in the Livigno Alps, situated on the border between Switzerland and Italy. It lies east of Pontresina and south of the Bernina Pass. The summit marks the divide between the Val Bernina on the Swiss side and the Valle di Livigno in Italy. The ascent route often passes through Fuorcla da la Stretta, a historic pass once frequently used by smugglers and traders. Geologically, Piz da Stretta consists of metamorphic rocks typical of the Central Alpine nappes. Vegetation at this altitude is sparse, though it hosts rare alpine species such as the alpine rock-jasmine. Mountaineers appreciate the solitude of the peak, as it remains less crowded than the neighboring Bernina giants while still offering superb views of the surrounding glaciers.
