Piz d'Es-cha North (Switzerland)

Weather…

Piz d'Es-cha is the highest summit of the Albula Alps in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland, rising to an elevation of 3418 meters. Situated northeast of Madulain, the mountain is a dominant feature of the Upper Engadine landscape. It is particularly noted for the Vadret da l'Es-cha glacier on its northern flank, which remains a defining characteristic despite recent glacial retreat. Geologically, the peak is composed of granite, distinguishing it from the surrounding sedimentary rocks and contributing to its rugged stability. The first official mountaineering ascent was achieved on July 13, 1838, by Johann Coaz, who later gained fame as the first person to climb Piz Bernina. Most climbers utilize the Es-cha Hut (SAC), located at 2594 meters, as a base for the summit attempt. From the top, mountaineers are rewarded with an exceptional panoramic view of the Bernina Range and the surrounding peaks of the Albula Alps.
