🍽 Food
This hearty barley soup is first-rate for warming up after a day in the mountains. You'll find it on the menu of most local restaurants.
Another must-try Graubünden specialty. Look for a restaurant serving traditional Swiss food.
Visit a local cheese dairy or farm shop to taste cheese made in the surrounding alpine pastures. Excellent for a picnic.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
The shop at the Bergün station and in the museum is a good place for souvenirs related to the railway and the region.
Look for local products like honey, cured meats, and handcrafted items in the small shops around the village.

Bergün (Romansh: Bravuogn) is tucked away in the imposing mountain world at the foot of the Albula Pass. The village has preserved its original character with typical Engadine houses and a Romanesque village scene. Bergün gained special fame through the Albula line of the Rhaetian Railway, which, with its spectacular spiral tunnels and viaducts, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and attracts railway enthusiasts from all over the world. In winter, Bergün transforms into the Swiss capital of sledging. The Albula Pass road is closed to cars between Preda and Bergün and repurposed into Europe's longest illuminated sledging run. A second, steeper sledging path leads down from Darlux to the village. In summer, the region is a paradise for hikers and mountain bikers, with the railway theme trail along the tracks being particularly popular with families. A cultural highlight is the Albula Railway Museum, located directly at the station, which presents the history of the Rhaetian Railway interactively. The village also frequently serves as a film set, most famous for the first Heidi movie. Bergün provides an authentic atmosphere away from mass tourism, well-suited for visitors seeking nostalgia and active recreation in the Grisons Alps.
