Minusio stretches picturesquely along the shores of Lake Maggiore in the Locarno district and is considered one of the most sought-after residential areas in Ticino. The municipality extends from the sparkling lakefront up to the forested slopes of Monte Brè. Historically, Minusio was long a fishing and farming village before evolving into an exclusive holiday resort in the 19th century. An outstanding architectural landmark is the Cà di Ferro, a fortified building constructed in the 16th century that once served as a barracks for mercenaries and is now a protected national monument. The parish church of San Quirico impresses with its Romanesque bell tower dating from the 13th century and valuable interior frescoes. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate, palms, camellias, and magnolias thrive in the town's magnificent gardens. The connection to the Gotthard railway in 1864 marked the beginning of a modern economic upswing that turned Minusio into a center for tourism and services. Visitors particularly appreciate the extensive lakeside promenade, which leads all the way to Muralto and Locarno, offering unobstructed views of the surrounding Alpine peaks.
