Verzasca Valley (Switzerland)

Weather…

The Verzasca Valley in the Canton of Ticino is famed for its emerald-green river and ruggedly romantic mountain scenery. It stretches 25 kilometers from Tenero on Lake Maggiore to the village of Sonogno, characterized by deep ravines and water-polished granite boulders. An architectural landmark is the 'Ponte dei Salti' in Lavertezzo, a double-arched stone bridge dating from the 17th century that serves as the valley's icon. The Verzasca River has numerous natural swimming holes, highly prized by divers and bathers for their crystalline transparency. At the valley's entrance stands the 220-meter-high Verzasca Dam, which gained international fame through the James Bond film 'GoldenEye' and now hosts one of the world's highest bungee jumping platforms. Villages like Corippo and Sonogno have preserved their traditional appearance with characteristic stone houses known as 'rustici.' Hiking trails such as the 'Sentierone' lead through chestnut groves and along the riverbank. The valley is also a vital sanctuary for alpine flora and fauna. Despite its popularity, the Verzasca Valley remains a bastion of authentic alpine culture and spectacular geological formations.

Terrain & paths
The terrain is characterized by smooth polished rocks, deep gorges, and the crystal-clear Verzasca River. Hiking trails often run picturesquely along the water or through old chestnut forests.
