📋 Practical info

🧭
Getting there
The south summit of Piz Terri is best accessible from the Valle di Blenio in Ticino, often via the Lago di Luzzone. Access to the reservoir is via Olivone and along steep, winding mountain roads.
📅
Best season
Visits are especially advisable from July to September, as the south-facing ascents are then mostly dry. However, after heavy rains, the paths on the flanks can be slippery and quite difficult.
⛰️
Terrain & paths
The terrain at the south summit is characterized by rugged rocks and steep scree fields that require alpine skill. The path is often narrow and runs partly through exposed, rocky terrain and steep slopes.
🎒
What to bring
Hikers need grippy mountain boots, weather protection clothing, and enough drinking supplies for the sunny southern slope. A helmet can be sensible in rocky passages for protection against loose stones.
🅿️
Parking
Parking spaces are found at Lago di Luzzone or in Olivone, with the reservoir significantly shortening the ascent. In high season, spots at the lake can be limited, so an early start is highly recommended.
⚠️
Safety
The heat on the south side can be intense in summer, so you should ensure you have adequate sun protection. Additionally, stay on marked trails to avoid the risks of falling in steep, unmarked terrain.
⏱️
Time needed
From Lago di Luzzone, an ascent of the south summit usually takes about six to seven hours. The path is strenuous and requires a good distribution of energy for the subsequent descent to the base.
