Ebikon is located in the lower Rontal valley, tucked away between the Rooterberg and the Friedental, directly northeast of the city of Lucerne. The municipality has evolved from a once rural village into a significant economic hub of Central Switzerland. Ebikon's history stretches back far; the first settlement traces date back to the Stone Age. The first documentary mention occurred in the 9th century as Abinchova. In the Middle Ages, the town was an important base for the Hof Monastery in Lucerne. With industrialization in the 19th and 20th centuries, prominent companies settled here, including the elevator company Schindler, which has its headquarters here. A modern milestone in the town's history was the opening of the Mall of Switzerland in 2017, one of the largest shopping centers in the country. Despite its strong economic focus, Ebikon provides valuable local recreation areas. The Rotsee, known as a venue for international rowing regattas, lies partly within the municipal territory and is considered one of the region's most beautiful natural areas. The municipality is exceptionally well-connected and benefits from its position on the main transport axis between Lucerne and Zug. Ebikon features a high quality of life with good social infrastructure and a diverse community life.
