Küssnacht am Rigi, as the town is often called, is picturesquely located on the Küssnacht basin of Lake Lucerne in the Canton of Schwyz. The place is inseparably linked to Switzerland's founding legend. Here lies the famous 'Hohle Gasse', where, according to tradition, William Tell shot the Habsburg bailiff Gessler with his crossbow. Today, the Hohle Gasse is an important national monument and a popular excursion destination. The ruins of Gesslerburg also overlook the town. However, Küssnacht is not just a place of history but also a center of living traditions. The Klausjagen on December 5th is one of Europe's most impressive Saint Nicholas customs, where giant, internally illuminated 'infuln' (bishop's miters) are carried through the dark streets. Geographically, Küssnacht is situated at the foot of the Rigi, the 'Queen of the Mountains', thus offering well-suited conditions for hiking and mountain tours. The lakeside promenade invites visitors to stay and provides a magnificent view of the Central Swiss Alps. Economically, Küssnacht is an important regional hub with a mix of trade, industry, and tourism. The community has developed strongly in recent years but carefully preserves its historical heritage and its character as the gateway to Central Switzerland.
