Kriens is a dynamic city in the Canton of Lucerne, geographically situated in the valley basin between the Pilatus massif and Sonnenberg. The settlement history dates back to the Stone Age, with the community first mentioned in documents in 840 as Chrientes. During the 19th century, Kriens transformed from a farming village into a significant industrial location, characterized by the textile and machinery industries. Today, the economy has shifted strongly towards the service sector, with its proximity to the economic center of Lucerne playing a pivotal role. A unique feature is its legal status: it was only in 2019 that the population voted to officially become a city. Kriens is internationally famous as the gateway to Mount Pilatus, as the aerial cableway to the summit starts here. Cultural heritage is preserved in the Museum im Bellpark, housed in a prestigious villa from the industrial era. Urban planning in recent decades has focused on revitalizing the city center and maintaining the green spaces on Sonnenberg.
