Naganeupseong Folk Village (South Korea)

Weather…

Naganeupseong Folk Village in Suncheon is one of South Korea's best-preserved historical fortress villages, dating back to the Joseon Dynasty. Unlike many other open-air museums, Naganeupseong is a living community where approximately 100 households still reside in traditional houses with thatched roofs. The entire village is enclosed by an imposing stone wall measuring about 1,400 meters in length, originally constructed in the 14th century to defend against Japanese pirate raids. Within the walls, visitors can find not only private residences but also former government offices, public inns, and a traditional prison. The architecture of the homes, characterized by low mud walls and thick thatched roofing, reflects the simple yet functional lifestyle of the common farming class of the era. Visitors can witness traditional craftsmanship, enjoy folk music performances, and taste authentic Korean village cuisine. UNESCO has added the village to its Tentative List for World Heritage status due to its extraordinary cultural continuity and the integrity of its historical landscape. Its pretty setting in a broad valley surrounded by mountains makes it one of the most scenic and atmospheric locations in South Korea.
