Goheung
Goheung has a unique blend of futuristic technology and untouched natural beauty. It is home to the Naro Space Center, the birthplace of Korea's space program, where visitors can learn about rocket launches and astronomy at the Space Museum. The peninsula is geographically remarkable, surrounded by hundreds of small islands, many of which are connected to the mainland by an impressive network of bridges. Nature enthusiasts are drawn to Palyeongsan National Park, famous for its eight jagged granite peaks that offer hikers panoramic views of the southern archipelago. Another significant site is Sorokdo Island, which has a poignant history as a former leper colony and is now a peaceful place of healing with beautiful gardens. The Goheung coastal drive is regarded as one of Korea's most scenic routes, featuring deep blue waters and lush green hills. In agriculture, Goheung leads the nation in the production of Yuja (yuzu) and pomegranates. The fragrance of Yuja blossoms and fruit permeates the region, especially in late autumn. Culinar-wise, besides Yuja tea, one must try grilled eel (jangeo), which is exceptionally fresh in this coastal area. The best time to visit is autumn for the harvest season or spring for pleasant hiking weather. Goheung is most easily reached by car or express bus from Suncheon.
