Rohinari is a historical settlement and Catholic mission station on the coast of South Malaita in the Solomon Islands. The site gained prominence in the early 20th century when missionaries established a center for education and medical care for the surrounding communities of the Are'are linguistic group. Geographically, Rohinari is located within a sheltered bay surrounded by steep, forested slopes. The architecture of the settlement is defined by solid church and school buildings, often constructed from local coral stone and timber. Culturally, Rohinari is famous for preserving the traditional panpipe music of the Are'are people, which has been studied by ethnomusicologists worldwide. The local economy is based on fishing, copra production, and the cultivation of garden crops. Rohinari also functions as an important social gathering place for residents of the southern lagoons of Malaita. Despite challenges posed by climate change and rising sea levels, the mission remains a stable anchor for the community. The tranquil, almost monastic atmosphere of the site occasionally attracts visitors seeking to explore the rich spiritual and cultural history of Malaita Island.
