Debeli Rtič Landscape Park

Debeli Rtič Landscape Park is situated at the tip of a prominent headland near Ankaran and serves as a vital coastal protected area on the Slovenian Adriatic. The territory was declared a natural monument in 1991 and later designated as a landscape park to preserve its distinct geological and biological features. It is characterized by low flysch cliffs and extensive shallow waters that support high levels of marine biodiversity. The park is home to rare coastal flora and acts as a significant resting point for migratory birds along the Adriatic flyway. An essential component of the site is the Youth and Health Resort, which has utilized the area's beneficial microclimate and seawater for therapeutic purposes since the 1950s. The vegetation within the park is a blend of Mediterranean macchia, oak forests, and landscaped grounds featuring pines and cedars. Due to strict conservation status, Debeli Rtič remains one of the few locations on the Slovenian coast where the natural shoreline has been almost entirely preserved in its original state.
